What is this document all about?
This is a policy highlighting what you as a seller can sell and advertise on our platform. The policy is part of our Terms of use which is a legally binding document. By using our platform, you automatically agree to this policy and our terms of use

TYPES OF ITEMS THAT ARE PROHIBITED

This is not an exhaustive list and we reserve the right to remove any item that we deem to be inappropriate and to terminate the seller’s rights which may be suspended or terminated. We will not sell any product that is illegal in terms of South African laws and regulations.

Drugs and medical drugs

The following items are examples:

  • Drugs and illegal herbal substances (including drug paraphernalia); and
  • Certain categories of medical drugs and pharmaceuticals.
  • If you make any claims regarding a medical drug, it remains your responsibility to ensure that you are compliant with all laws and regulations relating to the product.

Animal Products

The following items are examples:

  • Live animals
  • Items created from animals that are deemed threatened or endangered (including ivory).
  • Any items made from cat or dog parts (including hair).

Dangerous Items

The following items are examples:

  • Hazardous materials: Explosives, fireworks, flammable items, gases, radioactive material and toxic substances including poison.
  • Weapons: Guns, knives (not knives used for tools example kitchen knives), blatant weapons and imitation weapons that looks real.

Items that promote or support hate.

The following items are examples:

  • Any material that may propagate, advocate or communicate words based on one or more of the prohibited grounds (which include race, gender, sex, ethnic or social origin, colour, sexual orientation, age, religion, belief, culture, language) against any person or group that could be reasonable construed to demonstrate a clear intention to be hurtful, be harmful or to incite harm and to promote or propagate hatred. (The Promotion of Equality and Prevention of Unfair Discrimination Act, 2000.)

Illegal items, items promoting illegal activity and highly regulated items

The following items are examples:

  • Any items that are illegal or promotes illegal activity (for example counterfeit or stolen goods)
  • Items that is subject to complex legal regulations or registration processes (for example sale of real estate and motor vehicles including motorcycles, boats, caravans etc.)

Pornography

The following items are examples:

  • Any pornographic material.
  • Mature items will be allowed, provided that it is indicated as such. Mature content will include depictions of male or female genitalia, sexual activity, profane language, violent images etc.

Violent Items

The following items are examples:

  • Any item that promote, support or glorify acts of violence or harm towards self, others and animals (including exploitation of natural disasters, human tragedies, items that encourages self-mutilation and starvation etc.).
